The Story of Harmony Community Church

Harmony Community Church Plant

Our pastor’s heart, and the heart of those attending here and who helped plant Harmony Community Church, is to help people connect with God in a church, without letting the structures and programs get in the way. It is an intentionally focused, simple approach, and one God has blessed.

Before there was a Harmony Community, there were several families who met in homes, then local settings, simply seeking God for direction, from February-September 2005.  During that time, it became evident to all involved that God was clearly at work in our midst.  We decided to join Him, and discover what He had in mind.  The church chartered in October 2005.

Tried Byron, Powersville and Perry

We began with a portable approach (this fit much of what we value, as it keeps the main focus of God and people over all else very clear), and it was an incredible experience.  Following meeting in local homes, then in a large shop/garage (courtesy of Tim & Nancy Waters), and then the Powersville Opry House—all of which we outgrew, the church then met at the old city of Byron Auditorium.  That was a huge space, but after about a year, the city made plans to close and remodel that building.  The next year, after significant exploration for alternate locations, we began meeting at The Westfield School, in Perry.  During this time it had become clear that due to limitations on public spaces available, costs, and our growing needs, there was a need to purchase land, and build.

Relocated to Byron

In August 2007, Harmony Community Church relocated to our current location in Byron Georgia, and a new building on Housers Mill Rd, not far from the intersection at Russell Parkway which runs into Warner Robins.  The church continued to grow.  A needed expansion was completed in the Fall of 2010, and additional land was purchased.  God is blessing us still in so many ways, and we are looking to Him in the year ahead to discover what He has for us next.

About Harmony Community Church

A few cornerstones connected to what we are about include:  Biblically driven, interesting and relevant messages in our weekend services, contemporary services: casual dress, praise & worship band, breakfast foods provided, team oriented, LIFE Groups for building friendships and spiritual growth (small groups in homes, in Houston & Peach County, multiple days/times), and fulfilling our mission locally and in the world at large.  Newcomers are always welcome here.  This is a place of energy, creativity, and authenticity.  We’re officially Southern Baptist, but you’ll find people from many different denominational backgrounds, and walks of life.  If you’d like to read more about what we believe, you’ll find it here in our statement of faith.

As our pastor recently shared, “When people ask about Harmony Community Church, we just usually tell them it’s hard to explain; you just need to come and check it out. We try to stay with the basics and not get hung up on stuff that Jesus never intended us to.”

What Area’s Do We Serve?

We have people worshiping with us from Houston County, Peach County, Jones County, Bibb County and Crawford County. The most common cities that are represented by our patrons is Byron, Warner Robins, Perry, Macon and Centerville.  If you’re new to the area or simply want to check us out, we welcome you!  The directions are easy, and the service times are accommodating!

Bible Verse of the Day

For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
Romans 12:4-5
