It’s Showtime!

October 12, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

This past Wednesday, October 10, 2012 our children’s program called Showtime began.  It is super fun for the kids!  They all looked like they were having a great time while learning truths from God’s word.  The leaders were doing a great job of reinforcing the story and helping the kids remember their key verses.  For instance, while the kids were at their gym activity, the leaders would have them recite the verse every time someone got their ball in the bucket.  I thought that was great!  You can see what they were doing by checking out the pictures I took.

If your child missed Showtime this past week, it’s not too late.  Bring them for the next Showtime event on Wednesday the 17th, they will have a great time.  Also, while the kids are busy with Showtime, the adults meet upstairs for a Life Group.  You’ll enjoy that, it’s lead by Pastor Terry!

Whitaker’s Report | Mission Trip

September 3, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

Whitaker Mission Trip Sunday evening Greg, John & Kevin Whitaker gave a presentation of their recent mission trips to Peru and Nicaragua while we enjoyed numerous delicious desserts!

Greg and John showed us pictures and short video clips of the medical mission to Peru.  They were among a team of dentists and dental students to provide dental work to villagers along the Amazon river. They also had a gracious missionary with them who provided a huge houseboat they used to travel up the Amazon, live on and carry all their equipment.  They ministered spiritually and physically to the people in the villages, and even though it was exhausting work, they felt it was a time well spent for both them and the villagers.

Greg went on another mission trip with Kevin and his wife Linda to Nicaragua soon after the trip to Peru.  In Nicaragua they all assisted in the efforts to build a shelter for battered women and orphaned children.  They joined with a number of others from another baptist church in Americus Georgia. The foundation had already been laid and the walls were up, their main job was to put on the roof.  They put on the roof and hooked up the lights.  Some of the children came to see the progress of their new home and ran right to what would be their rooms. They were overjoyed! The trip was tough, no air conditioning and the work was hard but at the end of the trip, they were glad they went.

Greg challenged those of us there to really think about going on a mission trip, helping out those in need and gaining much more personally then you would ever expect to give.

Pool Party | Youth Activity

August 29, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

pool party funTonight the youth met at the Whitaker’s for a time of pool fun, food and fellowship.  There was a great turnout! Just a few are pictured here.  They enjoyed pizza, soda, chips, ice cream and candy.  They usually meet at the church every Wednesday but thankfully the rain stayed away and they had a great time of water polo and other water fun like; not sure what they called so I’ll just name it bucket ball.  I think that was totally a made up game but, it sure looked like fun!

A Visit from John

August 19, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

John speaks at HarmonThis morning we were fortunate to meet John McDonald who has ridden his bicycle from Kodiak Alaska and is on his way to Key West Florida.  His family is a friend of Pastor Terry’s and that is how we knew of John’s journey.  John shared some of what he has done on his journey of approximately 5,000 miles.  He sleeps in parks, eats a lot of peanut butter and rides about 8 to 9 hours a day and tries to travel over 100 hundred miles each day.  He’s been on the road since the end of May and left Kodiak just after graduating from high school.  He wants to make it to Key West Florida by September 7th. picture of JohnWhen asked if he was by himself he mentioned that he was and then corrected himself to say “Oh wait, no I’m not God, is always with me”. He’s had the opportunity to visit lots of church’s.  When asked if he had any issues with safety, he said “um, everyone’s been safe around me.”

John is making a documentary about his journey and wants to be in the film industry so that will be his course of study at school. If you would like to follow John and learn more about his adventures this is his blog. http://www.johnsamericabiketour.com

Lynne Stone

August 15, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

“Give honor to the Lord, you angels; give honor to the Lord for his glory and strength. Give honor to the Lord for the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (Ps. 29:1-2). When we do our best to thank God for giving his, we worship.

“…And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and favor with God and Man” (Luke 2:52). The Fishers for Kids ministry, taught by Diane and Steve Fisher, humbles my heart as these children at Harmony learn wisdom, faith, and friendship. Praise the Lord!

Salvation is now. Eternity is a heartbeat away. Choose God!
