Car Wash

September 17, 2013 by Danny Gilleland

carWash2

Is your car slightly dirty or really dirty?

No matter, support Harmony’s Youth Group and get your car washed anyway!

When? Saturday, September 21st from 9 am until 12 pm.

Where? 200 Georgia 49, Byron GA 31008

Huh, where’s that? Between Dr. Kirk’s office and the old Giant Foods

Why? Harmony’s youth has an opportunity to attend D-Now (Disciple Now) in Milledgeville, GA.  They will be working with the Northside Baptist Church Youth Group and other youth groups from the area. This is an awesome chance to fellowship with other youth in the area, learn more about discipleship, grow spiritually, experience the joy of Christ and much much more.

Don’t have a car? Bring your truck.

Don’t have a truck? They’ll take a donation anyway.

Can’t help financially? Pray for them, the trip could be life changing for some!

Huricane Sandy Relief Ministry

August 11, 2013 by Danny Gilleland

picture of Harmony's mission teamToday we got to enjoy a good report from the youth team that went to help out one woman in desperate need for some help.  They called her Miss Ellen and they all grew to love her!  The team worked hard the week they were there repairing walls, floors and even had a hand at helping to restore her water.  Triece Bush, the lady with the mic, shared how the team helped Miss Ellen get her water restored.

Lady telling a story

Triece Tells Water Retrieval Story

The team showed us pictures of their time with Miss Ellen and then of the opportunity they all had to visit the Jersey Shore and New York City.  On the trip back Mr. Craig, pictured in the middle of the group, asked the youth, “Who thought the highlight of their trip would be the Jersey Shore and New York City?”.  The all raised their hands.  Then he asked if that really was their highlight? The response was mostly the time spent with Miss Ellen.  I believe our youth and the chaperones certainly learned some life lessons while being used of God to fulfill needs and encourage  those they came in contact with.  Thanks for sharing!

Easter Egg Hunt

March 11, 2013 by Danny Gilleland

Harmony’s Easter Egg Hunt will be on Saturday, March 23rd, from 10 a.m. thru 12 p.m.

The ages are toddlers up to fifth grade.

Easter Egg HuntIf you have never brought your children to one of Harmony’s Easter Egg Hunts you will be pleasantly surprised at how well organized the event is.  The hunting area is divided up into several age groups so the little ones have a chance at finding eggs and not getting trampled by the older kids.  The plastic egg surprises are filled with toys and wrapped candy. It is so fun to watch the toddlers find their hidden (usually in plain sight) surprises and as the age groups get older well, their surprises get a little harder to find. 😆

After the hunt is over, the children gather indoors for a picnic lunch and some door prizes!

Everyone is welcomed to come so grab a container for your egg surprises, your children and plan on having a great time with your kids Saturday, March 23rd at 10 a.m. rain or shine.  If it’s raining, the kids will look inside for the eggs.

Now you’ll find practical steps to help you know your purpose, enjoy living out your purpose and finish strong. Living a better life is easier than you think!Good things can happen in all areas of your life—your faith, family and relationships, health, finances and work. Group #2

Title: Mighty Prevailing Prayer
Day & Time: Sunday – 6:30 p.m.
Group Type:
Open to Everyone
Leader: Tim Waters
Location:
Harmony Community Church
Description: God has a more effective prayer life for you than you ever dreamed possible. Let this study be your open door to wonderful answers to prayer. The evangelical church is guilty of the sin of prayerlessness. Author Wesley Duewel has provided exactly what we need: a biblically sound exposition and study of prevailing prayer and practical suggestions for ways to prevail in prayer.

Group #3

Title: Jesus Among Other Gods
Day & Time: Monday – 6:30 p.m.
Group Type:
Open To Everyone
Leader: Peter Fogg
Location: Whitaker Cabin
11431 Hwy. 96 East, Fort Valley
Description: In a world with so many religions, why Jesus? We are living in a time when you can believe anything, as long as you do not claim it to be true. In the name of “tolerance,” our postmodern culture embraces everything from Eastern mysticism to New Age spirituality. But as this study helps us see, such unquestioning acceptance of all things spiritual is absurd. All religions, plainly and simply, cannot be true.

Each week the group will consider a unique claim that Jesus made and then contrasts the truth of Jesus with the founders of Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism with compelling insight and passionate conviction.

Group #4

Group Type:
Open To Everyone
Leader: Craig Brush
Location: 1051 Housers Mill Road,  Fort Valley

Group Type: Women’s
Leaders: Laura Izzard/Beth Rigdon
Location: Whitaker Cabin
11431 Hwy. 96 East, Fort Valley
Description:ÜGod gave us emotions to experience life, not destroy it! We stuff, we explode, or we react somewhere in between. What do we do with these raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us? Yes, and in this study we will learn how. Filled with gut-honest personal examples and biblical teaching, Unglued will equip you to: Know with confidence how to resolve conflict in your important relationships. Find peace in your most difficult relationships as you learn to be honest but kind when offended. Identify what type of reactor you are and how to significantly improve your communication. Respond with no regrets by managing your tendencies to stuff, explode, or react somewhere in between. Gain a deep sense of calm by responding to situations out of your control without acting out of control.

Group #6

Title: Unglued

¡Responsibility: serving, protecting, and casting a vision for their family

¡Priorities: focusing on eternal things rather than what is temporary

¡Legacy: recognizing a father’s potential impact as a godly role model

¡Faith: strengthening a father’s identity in Christ, increasing in wisdom

Group #8

Title: Optimize – Fit For Life
Day & Time: Wednesday – 6:00 p.m.
Group Type: Women’s
Leader: Vicki Owen

Location: Whitaker Cabin
11431 Hwy. 96 East, Fort Valley

Description:“Just One Step” The way to better health is best taken just one step at the time. When we try to take short cuts or run a quick sprint, we often get lost or give up. But when you think about a healthier, happier life, it is good to know where you are going and how to get there. The intent of this very interactive group will be to work together to create a plan for each of us to have attainable health goals so that we can be our best for the Lord.
There will be no aerobics classes, no “weigh in’s”, or measurements taken. Come enjoy this informal, encouraging group …we’re going to have a GREAT time!

Group #9

Title: True Women 101
Day & Time: Wednesday – 6:00 p.m.Ü

Group Type: Women’s
Leader: Elise Vickers
Location:
Harmony (this group will coincide with “Showtime” children’s program)
Description: What does it mean to be a woman? The current cultural ideal for womanhood encourages women to be strident, sexual, self-centered, independent — and above all — powerful and in control. But sadly, this model of womanhood hasn’t delivered the happiness and fulfillment it promised. The Bible teaches that it’s not up to us to decide what womanhood is all about. God created male and female for a very specific purpose. His design isn’t arbitrary or unimportant. It is very intentional and He wants women to discover, embrace, and delight in the beauty of His design. He’s looking for True Women!

Group #10

Title: Crazy Love
Day & Time: Wednesday – 7:00 p.m.

Group Type: Open To Everyone
Leader: Scott Beach
Location:
358 J.W. Edwards Drive, Byron
Description: God is love. Crazy, relentless, all-powerful love.  Have you ever wondered if we’re missing it? It’s crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe—the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor—loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss. Whether you’ve verbalized it yet or not, we all know something’s wrong.

Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? Are you hungry for an authentic faith that addresses the problems of our world with tangible, even radical, solutions? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts-it’s falling in love with God. And once you encounter His love, as author Francis Chan describes it, you will never be the same. Because when you’re wildly in love with someone, it changes everything.

Group #11

Title: Love & Respect
Day & Time: Thursday – 6:30 p.m.

Group Type: Open To Everyone
Leader: Bill & Alisa Joseph
Location:
Harmony

áThis group is open to everyone, however the study is written with couples in mind.
Description:This study is based on the biblical passage from Ephesians 5:33 (But every husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and wives should respect their husbands – GODS WORD® translation). Communication between a husband and wife is often frustrated because of the vastly different ways in which men and women perceive love. Women are wired to need unconditional love and men need to feel unconditionally respected. Crack the communication code between you and your spouse—and reap the benefits of marriage as God intended!

A Special Delight

January 7, 2013 by Danny Gilleland

We were treated to a special rendition of Halleluiah by two children from one of our Harmony’s own family. They sung different lyrics instead of the original lyrics.  I loved them!  Here are the lyrics in case you’d like to have a listen and follow along below.

Listen

A couple came to Bethlehem
Expecting child, they searched the inn
To find a place for You were coming soon
There was no room for them to stay
So in a manger filled with hay
God’s only Son was born, oh Hallelujah
Hallelujah

The shepherds left their flocks by night
To see this baby wrapped in light
A host of angels led them all to You
It was just as the angels said
You’ll find Him in a manger bed
Immanuel and Savior, Hallelujah
Hallelujah

I know You came to rescue me
This baby boy would grow to be
A man and one day die for me and you
My sins would drive the nails in You
That rugged cross was my cross, too
Still every breath You drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Happy New Years!

January 2, 2013 by Danny Gilleland

We were treated with a pancake breakfast this past Sunday morning and they were delicious!  For those of you who have never had the opportunity to visit Harmony, we serve breakfast every Sunday.  There is always something yummy to enjoy!

Pastor Terry delivered a sermon entitled “Escaping The Cave Of Fear”.  I encourage you to have a listen.  It is available here.

It’s a new year, why not commit to reading through the bible this year? When the iPhone first came out there were all sorts of commercials suggesting that there was an app for just about anything you can think of.  Well, there is an app for reading through the Bible as well.  There are several available, with several different Bible reading plans.  I use YouVersion.  It’s a Bible app and is available on both iOS and Android devices.  You can read more about it here. It has many different translations of the Bible available and includes devotionals and reading plans.  Regardless if you have an app, get an app or use your trusty Bible, I encourage you to spend some time reading God’s Word in 2013!  Blessings!

A Special Guest Bagpipe Player

December 3, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

One of our praise band members invited a special guest to join the band in a special rendition of Come Thou Fount and we were treated to a first time event for a number of people in our congregation. Jack Mahaney from Mercer University Pipes and Drums brought along his bagpipes and played a couple of solo parts. To my surprise and many others, he has to actually wear ear plugs because the pipes are so loud. We also found out that the bagpipes only have 9 notes and there are no sharps! We recorded the song, hope you enjoy it!

Celebration Sunday Surprise!

November 18, 2012 by Danny Gilleland

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, we enjoyed a time of thanksgiving and celebration for what God has done for us!  We had just ended our life group studies focusing on Pastor Terry’s messages on Ecclesiastes so we came together to celebrate that as well.  It was a potluck dinner and the food was outstanding! After we ate we worshiped with song and then several people stood and said what they were thankful for.  Pastor Terry and Debbie recognized several from the congregation for giving their time and talents in many areas of the church.  There are so many at Harmony who just see a need and do it!  Harmony truly is a family and I for one, am glad to be a member. 🙂

Just when Pastor Terry thought he was wrapping things up, we had a surprise for him.  You see, October is Pastor Appreciation month and we had decided we would honor him on this particular Sunday.  Laura, put together an awesome slide show featuring Pastor Terry through the years at Harmony and focusing on the theme “What a difference you’ve made in our lives”. We had also prepared notes that we showered him with that he was to later read at home.

The evening ended bathed in candlelight.  The candlelight represented the lives Pastor Terry has touched within Harmony, throughout the community and even the world.

Pastor Terry, we love you!
